Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia and Sugar Ray Robinson are undisputed.
The game was formerly known as eSports Boxing Club (ESBC). Officially undisputed changes have been madeAccording to a YouTube video posted on the game’s official account featuring studio head Ash Habib.
The game has changed its handle on all social media platforms.
The video detailing the name change and the reason behind it can be found below:
As Habib points out, the original name of the game can be considered a bit misleading. Although eSports has become one of the most successful strands of the video game industry, the term is exclusively associated with competitive gaming.
As eSports is being defined more specifically, it’s probably not in a publisher’s best interest to release a game with the term in the title unless the competitive gaming demographic is the only target.
Undisputed will be the goal of feeding an eSports crowd, but not exclusively. The game featured an extensive create-a-fighter suite, a large roster, and a career mode. It seems that the plan is to be a more complete boxing experience aimed at fans of the undisputed competitive sport as well as those interested in a casual and more realistic, but single-player journey.
The biggest question about Undisputed is when it will be released. We don’t have a set date yet and many fans are getting worried and discouraged by the lack of information on this front. Fans of boxing video games have seen projects like this come and go without an actual release over the past decade.
The project has grown significantly since it was originally announced and has attracted considerable attention.
Undisputed is no longer a small indie project and the developers of Steel City are waiting for the right push to launch it to the next level. It is doubtful that contracts with Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Tyson Fury, Todd Grisham and others will go through the board without official disclosure.
Stay tuned.
