Houston police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy found inside a stolen SUV in a southeast Houston, Texas parking lot hours after his father was shot to death Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to a report of a shooting on El Camino del Rey Street around 2 p.m. Upon arriving at the location, they learned that the shooting victim, a 38-year-old man, had met another man for an undisclosed reason. Khuu news Report
During the encounter, an argument ensued between the two men, after which the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times in the chest. He was declared dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene using the victim’s SUV.
Around 6:30 p.m., Houston police received a call from a woman who reported her husband and child missing. As the woman provided descriptions of her husband and child, police connected the dots and concluded that her husband had been shot to death on El Camino del Rey Street. ABC13.
Police also noted that they had no idea there was a child in the stolen vehicle until the woman reported it.
“We realized very quickly that (the victim in the original scene) was her husband,” Houston Police Department Executive Chief Larry Satterwhite said, according to the outlet. “We never knew about the baby until she called.”
Within 30 minutes of searching the area, police located the SUV on Elm Street near Renwick Drive and found the child unresponsive in the back of the locked vehicle.
They broke the car window to rescue the 2-year-old, but he was already dead. Officials believe that the child may have died due to heatstroke after being kept in the car for a long time.
Meanwhile, the unidentified accused is absconding. Police are asking people with information about him to come forward. They released surveillance footage of the suspect, who is a black man with a slim build.
“A mother lost her husband, and she lost her 2-year-old child. We’re asking for help,” added Satterwhite.

It was not released whether the victim and the suspect knew each other.
