A minecraft map can often be a great way to learn more about the world. Minecraft: Education Edition recently started releasing maps that not only help players discover new things in the game, but also provide opportunities to explore historical moments or find ways to learn about important topics like climate activism.
The most recent example of this map is LatinExplorers: A Hispanic Heritage Journey, which shows some important figures who represent community strengths and other things. However, we also saw a map of Nobel Peace Prize winners, and even a mangrove restoration project. They’re great ways to learn something new, and this new map is just as important.
Minecraft: Frozen Planet 2 is being developed in partnership with BBC Earth and is designed to take players through the brutal environments of both the Arctic and Antarctic and teach them about the unique ecosystems that exist there. The teaser video below just shows the penguins – but honestly, what else does anyone need?

The map itself is released on September 21st, and will likely be playable in the free and education versions of the Minecraft Marketplace. We’re not sure if David Attenborough is involved, but the man is a living legend; So even without him, these kinds of things wouldn’t be possible without him leading documentaries like this and lending his great voice.
If you’re looking for your own snowy place to settle down, you’ll be able to find one in our list of the best Minecraft seeds. There are also a bunch of great Minecraft servers you can explore too if you feel like getting a little more sociable.
