World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will get a harder version of Heroic Dungeon after the release of the classic game Ulduar Raid, Blizzard has revealed.

The news comes via Wrath of the Lich King Classic lead game designer Chris Zierhut, who is a Interview with content creators MrGM and Scottejay, announced that a new, higher-difficulty version of Heroic dungeons will accompany the game’s phase-two content release. Loot from 10-man, first-stage missions will shift between these tough heroes. Bosses from this new difficulty will reward more symbols once defeated, which can be exchanged for higher-level gear.

This is a feature that was hinted at in a previous Blizzard post about the change from the original version of Wrath of the Lich King but not detailed, and it will probably sound familiar to players of modern versions of WoW. In “retail” WoW, a key endgame feature is Mythic+, where players attempt to complete progressively harder versions of dungeons for increased rewards.

This new system in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, which players are already unofficially referring to as “Heroic+”, doesn’t go that far (it seems that each dungeon will have an additional, more difficult version instead of an increasing difficulty slider). Still, based on Zierhut’s comments, it seems the feature was affected by WoW’s recent expansion.

“It’s borrowing a little bit from future games, but we think it’s going to be really exciting and give all that content more room to live, grow and be relevant,” Zierhut said.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic releases on September 26th and will bring some significant changes to the re-release of one of the most popular expansions in the history of the long-running MMORPG. The game’s Scourge Invasion pre-patch is currently live, but has been plagued by massive server login queues, with Blizzard urging players in highly populated areas to take advantage of free server transfers to avoid waiting hours to play.
