RELATED VIDEO: More immigrants arrive in DC as White House slams Republican governors

A group of 48 Venezuelan immigrants who were transported by the state of Florida on a surprise flight to Martha’s Vineyard last week have sued Gov. Ron DeSantis for a “deceptive and discriminatory scheme.”

The class-action lawsuit comes as at least two law enforcement agencies are also investigating the actions of Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott for possible illegality.

A new report has revealed funding for Mr DeSantis’ migrant flight. The contractor hired by the governor is a longtime GOP donor.

Meanwhile, a plane full of asylum seekers from Texas to Delaware has yet to materialize, even as officials there worry they’ll be surprised by a highly controversial plan to fly undeclared immigrants to the liberal jurisdiction of Florida.

Governor DeSantis and his allies have defended sending immigrants to Democratic-led states and cities in protest of what they characterize as the president’s “open borders” policy.

Abbott and DeSantis have promised more migrant flights

The GOP governors of Florida and Texas have shown no signs of letting up in their campaign to embarrass the Biden administration by organizing flights of migrants to liberal-controlled cities. The scheme has been roundly criticized for alleged fraudulent practices and the overall legitimacy of the process.

“There are also going to be buses, and probably more flights,” Mr DeSantis said on Friday. “The Legislature gave me $12 million. We’re going to spend every penny of it to make sure we’re protecting the people of the state of Florida.”

Mr Abbott, whose “Operation Lone Star” has settled more than 10,000 migrants in Liberal towns across the country, has promised more of the same.

“Texas will continue to send immigrants to sanctuary cities like Washington, D.C. until President Biden and Border Czar Harris do their job to secure the border,” he said in a statement last week.

Ron DeSantis and other Republicans are working overtime to refocus the midterms on immigration issues as their party faces the prospect of an unprecedented criminal investigation into Donald Trump as well as the GOP’s new campaign to limit abortion rights nationwide.

“It’s going to be a big issue in the election, I can tell you,” Mr. DeSantis promised Tuesday. “It’s already made more impact than anyone thought it could possibly make. But we’re going to make more impact.”

Jared Kushner: DeSantis is using immigrants as ‘political pawns’

Ron DeSantis’ use of state funds to transport immigrants thousands of miles from Texas to Massachusetts seems too much even for former President Donald Trump’s top adviser (and son-in-law) Jared Kushner.

He joined the list of those describing the governor’s efforts as inhumane in an interview with Fox News.

“I see what’s happening personally, and it’s very hard to see it on the southern border, me too — we have to remember that these are people, they’re human beings, so it’s very hard for me to see them being used as political pawns one way or another,” he said.

The Texas congressman ripped DeSantis and Abbott

Rep. Joaquin Castro this week slammed the governors of Texas and Florida for what he called hypocritical stances toward left-leaning Central/South American governments and migrants who have fled them in recent years.

“DeSantis, Abbott, etc. are constantly beating up places like Cuba and Venezuela because the leaders are so repressive and make the countries dangerous for people, and yet when people try to escape, they treat them like shit,” the congressman argued.

Jon Stewart blasts DeSantis over ‘d***ish’ migrant flight

Former Comedy Central star Jon Stewart railed against Ron DeSantis over his next plan to fly immigrants from Texas to Massachusetts, using funding to help people in Florida.

“This stunt did exactly what he wanted to do, which was to jump up his profile, make him a hero among those for whom d***ishness is one of the only qualities they look for in their leaders,” said the liberal comedian.

Marco Rubio has spread misinformation about immigrants

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida is joining the ranks of Republicans spreading lies about immigrants on Martha’s Vineyard as backlash mounts against GOP-led efforts.

Mr. Rubio went on Fox News to falsely claim that the immigrants suing Florida’s governor over the scheme “weren’t even here legally.”

But, of course, this is not true. The immigrants in question are asylum seekers, a longstanding legal process for applying to live in the United States.

Greg Abbott has designated drug cartels as ‘terrorist’ groups

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order aimed at fighting international drug cartels headquartered in Mexico and elsewhere in Central/South America.

The order signed by Mr. Abbott on Wednesday formally designates such groups as “terrorist” organizations and directs local law enforcement agencies to redouble their efforts to thwart the groups’ activities in Texas.

In fact, the order will have little effect on how law enforcement deals with such investigations.
